LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project

With the Cavite Extension project, the total number of LRT-1 stations will increase from 20 to 28, covering several major cities including Quezon City, Caloocan, Manila, Pasay, and Paranaque, all the way to Bacoor, Cavite. It will add 11 kms to the existing railway system and is expected to service up to 800,000 passengers per day. It is also expected to increase and enhance commercial development around the rail stations.

Commuters can expect comfortable, reliable, and modern integrated transport riding the LRT-1 because travel time from Pasay City to Cavite will be cut down from an hour and half to just twenty-five to thirty minutes.

LRMC is working with Bouygues Travaux Publics as the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for this much-anticipated LRT-1 extension. A global player in construction operating in more than 80 countries from 5 continents, Bouygues Travaux Publics is an expert in large-scale projects involving tunnels, engineering structures, as well as road, port & rail infrastructures.

For the Phase 1 of the project (ROW Package 1), a total of 203 pi-girders (chief horizontal support in a structure) will be installed using the above-ground launcher. The project’s target is to install a pi-girder every 1-2 days until January 2022. A first for the Philippines, this special engineering method allows for faster execution and causes minimal effect on the ground-level traffic. The other pi-girders will be installed via on-ground equipment such as straddle carriers and cranes.

Construction milestones:

  • April 2019: Started geotechnical investigation
  • May 2019: Groundbreaking ceremony with grantors and shareholders
  • September 2019: Start of physical construction works; Design and civil works for ROW Package 1
  • September 2020: First pi-girder installation
  • 2022: Target ROW Package 1 completion
