LRT-1 private operator Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) stands with the Filipino nation in celebrating the 128th anniversary of Philippine Independence Day on Friday, June 12, 2026.
To mark this historic occasion and encourage the public to participate in the national celebrations, LRMC will offer free rides to all LRT-1 passengers from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM and from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

As the summer heat continues to rise, LRT-1 private operator Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) has officially launched a new air-conditioned waiting room at Baclaran Station (northbound). This initiative is part of LRMC’s ongoing commitment to improving the passenger experience by providing a cooler space for commuters to stay in between train intervals during the intense summer season.

With the Cavite Extension project, the total number of LRT-1 stations will increase from 20 to 28, covering several major cities including Quezon City, Caloocan, Manila, Pasay, and Paranaque, all the way to Bacoor, Cavite. It will add 11 kms to the existing railway system and is expected to service up to 800,000 passengers per day. It is also expected to increase and enhance commercial development around the rail stations.
ikotMNL was launched in 2018 as a tourism campaign, in partnership with the Department of Tourism (DOT) and local tour operators to promote rediscovery of Metro Manila’s historical spots and landmarks that are accessible by riding the LRT-1. Through LRT-1’s ikotMNL, local and foreign tourists can rediscover more of Intramuros, Binondo, or Quiapo since they can take the train and have more time to explore Manila for food, shopping, museums, and parks.
LRMC’s mission is to provide a safe transportation system, and the company achieves this by using best in class safety protocols. LRMC has been implementing above-minimum health and safety measures to ensure passenger and employee safety in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic. It was the first to implement the “no-talking and no answering phone calls” policy inside the LRT-1 trains.
