LRT-1 private operator Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) earned prominent honors at the 22nd Philippine Quill Awards organized by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Philippines, taking home two Excellence Awards and one Merit Award for its communication and advocacy programs.
The Philippine Quill Award is the country’s premier awards program in business communication, recognizing campaigns that deliver clear strategy and real community impact.
LRMC received an Excellence Award in Audio/Visual Communication for “Kasakaysayan: Learn and Travel with LRT-1.” Developed in partnership with Renacimiento Manila and DDB Philippines, the project combines the words Kasakay (co-passenger) and Kasaysayan (history) to transform daily commutes. By utilizing audio systems on 4th-Generation trains to broadcast short historical facts before arriving at each station, the initiative turns transit time into engaging audio lessons for hundreds of thousands of riders.
The company earned a second Excellence Award in Safety Communication for “LRT-1 KaligtaSakay: A Safety Education Program.” This community outreach project visits schools along the LRT-1 route to teach students and teachers basic first aid, fire and electrical safety, train etiquette, and disaster preparedness, helping build a stronger safety culture beyond the station platforms.
LRMC also won a Merit Award in Special and Experiential Events for the “LRT-1 ikotMNL Heritage Transit Tour (South Route),” launched in partnership with Renacimiento Manila. Part of the ikotMNL tourism initiative, this program leads guided train-based tours to cultural and historical spots across southern Metro Manila, promoting urban exploration through eco-friendly transit.

The awards highlight LRMC’s ongoing commitment to delivering efficient rail operations while enriching the daily commuter experience through safety, culture, and community advocacy.
