LRMC, Maya launch QR-based ticketing system for LRT-1

LRT-1 private operator Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), in partnership with No. 1 digital banking app Maya, launch today a groundbreaking milestone in the modernization of railway transportation in the Philippines with the implementation of LRT-1 QR Ticketing system. 

Commuters can now conveniently purchase their single journey LRT-1 QR ticket using the LRMC’s ikotMNL app, a first-of-its-kind in the Philippine railway industry that empowers commuters with better access to train information, and the Maya app by scanning the generated QR ticket at the dedicated QR terminals located at all LRT-1 Stations — making the process quick, seamless, and hassle-free.

“The LRT-1 QR Ticketing project marks a significant milestone in public transportation, where everyone can enjoy faster, safer, and more convenient digital transactions. This end-to-end digitalization represents a turning point in modernizing our transportation system and promoting digital payments on a wider scale,” said Manuel V. Commuters can easily purchase LRT-1 QR tickets via ikotMNL app. Through Maya Business, Maya enables the ikotMNL app to accept digital payments from Maya, other e-wallets, banks, credit, debit, prepaid card, and soon, QR PH. QR tickets generated are valid for 24 hours from the date of purchase and can be used at all LRT-1 stations from Baclaran to Roosevelt and vice versa. 

Here is a simple step-by-step guide for IkotMNL app:

  1. Open your ikotMNL app and click the beep QR Ticket button.
  2. Choose the LRT-1 route. Select route, direction, starting and destination point.
  3. Proceed to payment. Select mode of payment: e-wallet, debit card, credit card
  4. Save or download QR ticket. This will be generated once payment is confirmed.
  5. Scan the QR ticket at the AFCS gate – QR reader before LRT-1 ride.

LRT-1 QR tickets may also be purchased through the Maya app by navigating to the Services section and selecting the LRT-1 tile under the Lifestyle category. Maya is offering one free LRT-1 ride per month per customer in the form of cashback vouchers. Passengers simply need to purchase their QR tickets within the Maya app to enjoy this benefit until August 31, 2023.
