New LRT-1 fares effective 2 April 2025

Pursuant to the Department of Transportation (DOTr) notice dated 14 February 2025 confirming the approval of LRT-1 fare adjustment, Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) will implement new fares for LRT-1 starting 2 April 2025. LRMC has complied with regulatory approval process, including the public hearing held on 09 January 2025 which was attended by various stakeholders.

The newly approved fare scheme is lower than the 2024 rates applied for by LRMC and is only equal to the 2022 LRMC application as provided for in the Concession Agreement. This is just the second time that LRMC is granted fare adjustment during the last ten (10) years despite its recent opening of the Cavite Extension.

“Public transport is a service that requires continuous investment in maintenance, upgrades, and expansion. Countries with world-class transport systems such as Singapore and Japan adjust fares regularly to keep services efficient and safe. We are thankful to our partners in government for their support in ensuring that we can sustain the necessary upgrades. In the past ten (10) years of operating and maintaining the 40-year-old railway line, this will only be the second time that LRMC has been allowed to implement fare adjustments for LRT-1. LRMC has since introduced new trains, station upgrades, and better service efficiency. Last November 2024, LRMC also completed Phase 1 of the Cavite Extension Project and opened the extension for commercial operations,” LRMC President/CEO Enrico R. Benipayo said.

Today, LRT-1 remains to be one of the fastest modes of transportation in Metro Manila and a sustainable way to commute with lower greenhouse gas emissions.

Mr. Benipayo added, “LRMC has always achieved 100% of its monthly system reliability, system punctuality, and system availability performance indicators. The cycle time (total time it takes for a complete roundtrip) has significantly improved since 2015 from 106 minutes upon takeover of LRMC to 91 minutes in 2024. We remain committed to our mission of giving people back their time through efficient transport and putting more value to every single peso that our passengers spend for every LRT-1 ride.”

Based on the decision of DOTr’s Rail Regulatory Unit (RRU), the LRT-1 boarding fare will become Php16.25 with a distance fare of Php1.47 per kilometer.
