Overall construction progress now at 75.3%
LRT-1 private operator Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) shows full support to Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista as it recently welcomed the country’s transportation chief during his first technical site visit for the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project on Monday, 14 November 2022.

LRMC President and CEO Juan F. Alfonso, together with LRMC’s contractors, toured Transportation Secretary Bautista on the viaduct witnessing first-hand the ongoing construction of new stations and electromechanical works such as the laying of rails and installation of the electrical system.
Transportation Secretary Bautista was impressed with the status of the project, and commended LRMC for the fast and efficient progress of the construction. Phase 1 of the 11.7 km LRT-1 Cavite Extension registered 75.3% overall progress rate as of October 2022. Civil works for the project started in September 2019, while the viaduct was completed last February 2022.

“We thank the good Secretary Bautista, as well as our partner government agencies and private contractors, for their support to make the LRT-1 Cavite Extension project happen. We share a common goal of elevating the Philippine public transportation to global standards, especially on railways, to strike the maximum benefits for the Filipino people having safe, reliable, and efficient commuting experience,” LRMC President and CEO Juan F. Alfonso said.

Secretary Bautista personally witnessed the non-stop construction of Dr. A. Santos Station in Parañaque City, which is one of the additional five LRT-1 stations under Phase 1 that include Ninoy Aquino, PITX Asia World, MIA, and Redemptorist – all having construction activities in full swing. To date, Dr. Santos, Ninoy Aquino, and Redemptorist Stations in Parañaque City have 48.03%, 34.06%, 30.17% progress rates, respectively. On the other hand, PITX Asiaworld Station and MIA Station in Pasay City have 37.12% and 35.47% progress rates, respectively. Recent construction activities for the stations include casting of concrete plinths, backfilling, erecting of columns and beams, among others.

Also present during the technical site visit were DOTr Undersecretary for Railways Cesar Chavez, DOTr Undersecretary for Legal Affairs Atty. Reiner Yebra, DOTr Assistant Secretary for Railways Jorjette Aquino, and Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) Administrator Hernando Cabrera.
The 11.7-kilometer, 8-station LRT-1 Cavite Extension project aims to cut travel time between Baclaran and Bacoor from 1 hour and 10 minutes to just 25 minutes, and to increase the rail line’s capacity to 800,000 passengers daily. Phase 1 is targeted to be operational in the 4th Quarter of 2024.
